Reminiscing My Visit to the Apple Store Barcelona

The Apple Store Barcelona

The Apple Store Barcelona is not right in the centre of the city, which could be a good thing. When you have a store that is right in the centre of the city then you will have difficulties with parking. Apple decided with the Barcelona Apple Store that it would be better if it was on a retail Park. So in Barcelona if you want to have an Apple retail experience you have to go to visit La Maquinista. In the La Maquinista shopping centre you will find the Apple Store on the first floor. The first time that I visited I found it a little bit difficult to find, because it is quite a large shopping centre. In fact I parked at the wrong end of the shopping centre and was looking all over the place for applestore Barcelona, without success and had to ask somebody in the end.

I had my iMac fixed in the Apple Store Barcelona

The Apple Store was quite new, I think it had been only open a few months and as you know Apple stores are usually pretty busy. Seeing as this store was still a bit of a novelty, it is only the second Apple Store within Spain, so it was extra busy. I was fortunate in that although I didn’t have an appointment to see one of the Apple Genius guys, I was able to be seen and have the broken iMac looked at. The only trouble was that it took nearly a month to get fixed. I decided to get Apple Care on the latest iMac I have on the desk now, as I couldn’t go through that again. I couldn’t be that long without my computer now. Especially as I have given the MacBook, my back up machine to my son.

Apple Store Barcelona - La Maquinista

After a few weeks of waiting…

I am not a patient man and I was really starting to get miffed at the delay of getting the machine fixed. So as you can imagine I was delighted when the Apple Store Barcelona did finally get their finger out and fix my computer. I don’t much like the drive down to the Apple retail store at La Maquinista in Barcelona. My car is old and not really good for the motorway trips. I also find it a pain having to have the cash ready for the toll booths on the way there and back.

My next planned visit to the Apple Store Barcelona

I really don’t like it going into big cities if I can help it, and that includes Barcelona, even with it being quite a nice city to visit generally. So even with the allure of going to visit the Apple Store Barcelona, it may be some time before I make that journey again. My nearest city to where I live is Girona and unfortunately there is not a proper Apple Store in that city. There is a small, very small Apple reseller, which I have visited a number of times just to have a quick look in. The only problem is that if you were to be buying a large computer from that shop then parking is a bit of a problem. The Apple Store Girona is right in the old town of the city and it would be difficult to get a car in front of the shop.

Also in Girona there is a large superstore type of electronic store called Mediamarkt and this does have an area where Apple kit is sold. It is not a pleasant visit in there, as there is generally only one person looking after the Apple area. I did overhear one time, a customer that was looking for advice regards buying Apple equipment and the person giving advice was one of the general store employees, that was giving very bad information and steering the customer away from buying Apple. The store is very noisy and I am always very glad to get out of there. The only good thing about this large store is the fact that there is a very big car park in front and if the item that you wanted to buy was available in the store it would be a very simple matter to do some guerrilla shopping.

Put on the combats and go Guerilla

Guerrilla shopping is my preferred sort of shopping. Know what you want, go in a shop, hand over the cash and walk out with it, go home and play with it – Done and Dusted. At least with that sort of shopping it is possible to have the new iMac or the new iPad, there and then without having to wait. My other sort of preferred shopping of course is the online shopping, where I have the toys sent to me. The fun part of the online shopping is where you have a tracking number to be able to see the route that your purchase is taking, and exactly where it is at any given moment. But if I can’t wait then I might be tempted to visit the Apple Store Barcelona.

Muscians – Guitarists and Singers – Amplitube iPad app

Amplitube iPad 1

Amplitube for iPad – iPad Musicians Tools

Amplitube iRig is another tool for making music with the iPad and it can be used with the Garageband application. Also you have the Amplitube 2 for iPad application, which is a fully functioning guitar multi-effect processor and is also a recording and sound and music production studio for your iPad. Basically what you do is you turn your iPad into a mobile guitar, bass, keyboards and multi-effect processor for vocals. The Amplitube App gives you a complete recording studio on your iPad.

The Amazing iPad

To connect up your guitar you use the Amplitube iRig interface adapter and there is also the iRig microphone, or iRig Mic, so that you can process and record your vocals as well as acoustic instruments. You don’t have to be sitting in a recording studio to make music. So long as you have your guitar, the Amplitube adapter and your iPad with the Amplitube software on it, you can practice and record just about anywhere.

Using Amplitube iPad Effects

With the Amplitube 2 for iPad, it is like a traditional live set up and you have four daisy chained stompbox effects that run into an amplifier with a plethora of effects. You also have a cabinet and a microphone. There are 11 stomp box built in effects to choose from. There is delay, fuzz, overdrive wah, chorus, envelope filter, phaser, flanger, octave, noise filter and also distortion.

Amplitube ipad

You have five different amps to choose from, that have full controls, along with five different speaker cabinets and two microphones. One of the microphones is dynamic and the other one is condenser. The condenser microphones are more for the studio use as they are more sensitive. With the five amplifiers you get clean, crunch, lead, metal and bass.

Amplitube iPad and the paid for extras

It is also possible to expand the recording rig that you start with, by making some in app purchases ,with affects like the compressor, reverb, parametric EQ, graphic EQ and the limiter. Personally I think that those FX should have been included already in the basic package as standard. So when you are looking at the price of this setup you should see how much the in app purchases are going to cost you, so that you know how much the total is going to be. There are other amps and effects that you can add from the Amplitube Fender and vocal effects from the Vocalive apps . When you have all of this installed there would be hardly anything, that you couldn’t do with Amplitube for iPad.

Amplitube 3 – Organising your favourite presets

Having all these wild and wonderful amps, effects and so on is great, but you do need to have some way to be able to manage them. Within Amplitube for iPad there is a folder panel system that allows you to store, find and recall your library of sounds. You can actually make some dedicated buttons with favourites and there are 10 available banks to store your 40 most often used to presets. So when working on a song, it can be quite manageable to change from one preset through to another.

A large part of the functionality of the Amplitube for iPad application is the ability to grab your musical ideas, and record your performances quickly and easily. Amplitube iPad has a built-in recorder and from this you can export out high-quality sound files. Within the recorder you can also apply different sets of effects and be able to change the tone and the sound of the original track. You can make all sorts of tweaks to perfect your soundtrack in recorder. Once again to be able to get the full benefits of the application you have to add, in app purchases, this time you have to pay extra to turn the single track recorder into a multitrack recorder. I suppose the benefit of this is that you can get the bare application to test out the basics and then expand it as necessary.

Amplitube for iPad – Single Track or Multi Track

When you have the eight track recorder and the master effects section, you are able to work on each individual track with the volume control, pan control, solo and muted switches, as well as controls for adding ambience and depth. It is also possible to import audio into each track and there is a feature which allows you to bounce tracks into one track, which frees up extra tracks for you to be able to use.

Amplitube 3 for iPad looks as though it is an extremely capable musicians tool that will be continuously expandable, so long as you’re prepared to pay for extras. It looks easy to set up and work with the Amplitube iRig, which you use to connect up your guitar. Then you also have the iRig microphone for adding your vocals. A one stop shop for guitarists and singers. Don’t forget there is the ioDock from Alesis that is an excellent tool for connecting microphones to the iPad.

Stylus Decisions – iPad Stylus Reviews For More Information

Using iPad Stylus Reviews To Decide Upon Which Stylus To Buy

After reading a few of the iPad stylus reviews, it was time to go out and buy one for myself. There are a variety of iPad stylus available and some of them are quite informative about how you might use an iPad stylus. You may also find it useful to have a look at the iPad stylus reviews, that are more concerned with how you might make your own iPad stylus.

The Amazing iPad

iPad Stylus Reviews Confound Of The Designers

41BDHtZtDML AA300

To use a stylus with the Amazing iPad, it’s not really what Steve jobs had in mind when the iPad was designed. In fact the stylus that Steve Jobs had in mind for us to use, was the finger. The good thing about using the finger of course, is that you don’t have to worry about carrying around another device or tool to be able the use your Apple tablet.

Despite what the designers of the Apple iPad thought, you will find in the iPad stylus reviews that there are some instances where a stylus is a great idea. One such case would be if you are an artist and using applications such as Art Studio to create some digital painting and drawing art. I can confirm that this is the case because I do have Art Studio, and it is much easier to use with a stylus.

When your using the pencil tool or the brush tools in ArtStudio with a stylus, you will soon see that you have much better control over the drawing. You won’t need the iPad stylus reviews to tell you that you will be able to do better digital art by using a stylus. It feels much more like you have a pen or a brush in your hand, and so, much more mimics the old way of doing things.

Handwriting Recognition In The iPad Stylus Reviews

As you’ll also find in the iPad stylus reviews, they have said that having a stylus is the best way to use one of the handwriting recognition applications, such as Phatpad. We are more used to be able to write using a pen, after having spent many years using the old analog device. It is therefore only natural that when we want to write something, having in our hand a tool that is something like a pen, is more comfortable and therefore more effective. In my iPad stylus reviews, for the Boxwave stylus and the Targus stylus, you will see what it is like to be able to use one of these tools. It is actually quite easy to use the handwriting recognition software Phatpad, although you do have to be quite careful in the way that you write your letters. My handwriting is fairly terrible, but Phatpad has been able to convert it into editable text.

The price of a stylus is not very high, even when you buy a quality one like the Boxwave iPad stylus or the Targus stylus, so it is not going to be too expensive to buy one to try out. You could get yourself a stylus and do your own iPad pen review. Lately I have been using the Targus stylus and I am very pleased with it in terms of build quality and usability. The body of the stylus is made of metal and the end of it, the bit you write with is a kind of soft rubber button. I was kind of worried that having a metal pen in close proximity to the iPad would lead to scratches on the glass. After using the Targus stylus for a while, I find that in use it is unlikely to scratch the iPad.

Not the Same As Using a Wacom Tablet

In the iPad stylus reviews you are likely also to be able to find out, which of the stylus designs will give you the best fine point to draw with, or to write with. To a certain extent you don’t need to worry about having a fine point on the actual stylus, as the software will determine the width of the line that you draw. Neither does it matter, how hard you press with the stylus, as it does not work in the same way as the Wacom drawing tablets, which have the pressure sensitive abilities.

iPad Microphone To Use For Recording Audio – Best iPad Mic

Making Audio Recordings With the iPad Microphone

The iPad does have sound facilities for recording. There is an iPad microphone and it is sensitive enough that you will be able to record within a meeting, or in a classroom. Because of the sensitivity of the microphone, I’d suggest that you would want to have a fairly quiet room, with just one or two persons speaking. If you have a larger number of people speaking at the same time, then you will not be so likely to get a very good recording. Although the internal iPad Mic is quite good for general use, there are other options for external microphones.

The Amazing iPad

I have seen in a number of online stores, there are external microphones that are very inexpensive to buy and don’t have any cables, they just simply plug-in to the microphone jack on the iPad. Even though they are cheap microphones, they are very sensitive and will actually perform better, than the internal microphone that is included with the iPad. Whatever type of computer you are using, this is always the case that an external microphone will allow you to make better sound recordings.

iPad microphone and The iPad as a Skype Phone

These small thumb tack type of microphones can also include a speaker, and with this you can have the iPad work as a Skype phone. These microphones will also work with the iPod touch. The price of these tiny microphones generally work out at between $5 and $10, so you could buy a couple of different models and try them out. To use as a Skype phone you will also need to be connected to the Internet, either by Wi-Fi or 3G.

iPad Microphone iRig

The next step up from the expensive microphones would be the iRig microphone. This is a microphone that is designed especially for the iPad, it has a cable that connects into a special connector that fits into the iPad. The connector gives you a place to plug-in some headphones or speakers, so that you are able to listen back to your recordings. The microphone itself is a hand-held microphone, on the end of a cable, it looks quite professional and is similar to the Shure SM 58 in looks. The iRig iPad microphone also comes with extra software and the makers recommend that the microphone can be used for creation of music and also for voice type recordings, such as a podcast.

There are a number of voice recording applications, music recording applications and digital audio applications for iPad. One particular audio recording software of note, for the iPad would be Garageband. I have only just bought Garageband for the iPad, so I will have to have a play with it first before I can give you a review of it here on the website. I am very much looking forward to having a play with Garageband and using a microphone iPad.

iPhone Headset Used As An iPad Microphone

When I am speaking into the iPad, using the DragonDictate software, I quite often use the headset from my iPhone, which has a microphone for iPad included. For the purpose of dictation the microphone on the headset is good enough for the job. If I were to use that microphone for other uses, such as for recording voice overs, then I would be disappointed, when compared to using my Behringer B2 studio microphone.

When using the iPad Mic for taking audio notes, you will find that there are a large number of note taking applications that you will be able to record your voice. iPad audio note taking is popular with students and can also be used in business meetings. It can be especially handy, when you are using a note taking application that synchronises the typed or handwritten notes along with the audio recorded with your iPad microphone. What is the best mic for iPad?

Saving Money with an Apple iPad Refurbished From the Refurbished Apple Computers Store

Refurbished Apple computers – would I buy an Apple iPad refurbished

There’s no doubt about it, that when you look in the Apple refurbished store, that the discounts available on refurbished products such as an Apple iPad refurbished to be as good as new, it is tempting. Then there are those that would look at the idea of buying an Apple iPad refurbished, as a bad idea, thinking that there would be something wrong with it. Or why else would somebody have sent it back, after buying it previously.

The Amazing iPad

Refurbished Apple computers are the best

I suggest that a good way to look upon the notion of buying an Apple refurbished iPad is that the iPad is better than new. When you think of all the thousands and thousands of Apple iPad’s that leave the factory, with but a cursory check to make sure they’re okay and compare it with a iPad refurbished, a refurbished iPad will have undergone more checks. Of course the manufacturing process is such that, there will be a large number of checks in the process, so that there are few defective items at the end of the process. It is inevitable though that in a mechanical, probably robotic process, that there will be one or 2 that don’t make the grade, slipping through the net.

Apple iPad refurbished

Apple iPad refurbished to better than new

Indeed, it is possible that an iPad which has been returned, might have only been taken out of the box, and despite nothing being the wrong with it, it has been returned. Due to legal requirements, Apple are not able to sell that product as if it was a new iPad. It is one of the cases that would lead to the iPad being checked and double checked, repackaged and sold as a refurbished model. Even if there was something physically and technically wrong with the iPad, then who better to bring you back to new condition than the manufacturer itself. Time to buy a refurb iPad, I think.

Which Refurbished iPad to buy?

When you look into the Apple Refurb store then amongst the refurbished Apple laptops and other refurbished Apple computers you will find your Apple refurbished iPad. Usually the refurb models are the same as you would buy in the ordinary Apple Store. It could be though, that 6 or even 9 months, after there has been a change model, it may be possible to buy the old model, but with a bigger discount.

How much cheaper is an Apple refurbished iPad

The usual amount of discount on an Apple refurbished iPad would be in the region of 12% to 15%. If you are going for the older model of the iPad, so, not the same model that is being sold as new in the Apple online store, then you could see a discount of around 20% to 25%. Now you can see why it is more than just tempting to buy refurbished Apple computers and in particular a refurbished iPad. So now you have the iPad do you want to know – What does an iPad do?

iPad Backup Software – Backup Tools Keeping Your Data Safe

Backup tools – iPad Backup Software

With the fact that it is built-in for us by Apple, the ability to backup the iPad without any backup tools, other than using iTunes, why would we need to go looking for iPad backup software? There are one or two backup tools for the iPad available in the Internet’s, but after looking at the webpages for the software, I wouldn’t put much faith in them.

Whilst doing a search for backup iPad apps and iPad backup software, most of the links lead to software for copying files to iPad, all from the iPad to the computer. I suppose if you feel the need to have a backup, of some of the individual files, rather than a backup of the whole iPad, then one of these applications might suit you.
The Amazing iPad

Copy files to iPad or iPad Backup Software

Backup tools
I found one app called Emicsoft iPad to Computer Transfer, and after looking at the webpage, was not terribly impressed. They did have iPad backup software for using both with Windows and also with Macs. It didn’t look like software, that I would like to install on my computer. I found another one called iPad to Mac Transfer and again this was more concerned with how to copy files to iPad, or moving your files to and from the iPad.

iPad Backup Location

One piece of information that I did find that could be useful, is the iPad backup location, for Mac and also for Windows. On the Mac the iPad backup location is in/library/application support/mobilesync/backup/. On Windows there are different places to look depending on which version you are running. For Windows XP users you would look in \documents and settings\(your username)\application data\Apple Computer\Mobilesync\backup. Then if you are using Windows Vista you would look in\users\(your username)\app data\roaming\Apple Computer\Mobilesync\backup.

IPad backip softwareI did see another iPad Backup software and again I was not reassured by the web page and didn’t fancy giving it a try when I have iTunes doing the business for me anyway. iPad Backup & Converter Suite for Windows and iPad Backup & Converter Suite for Mac.

Phone view for full iPhone and iPod access, by Ecamm

The software by Ecamm network called phone view, on the other hand, I have seen in operation, does actually work well on the Mac. With this iPhone and iPad software, you can connect via a USB cable to see your file storage, voicemail, text messages, app data, basically whatever you have on your iPad. This software could be one of your backup tools for your iPad, allowing you to backup data on a per file basis. I would not recommend though to use this instead of the full backups that you would create by using iTunes while synchronising your iPad. This software is not free it costs $19.95 and certainly could be useful for connecting to your iPad from your Mac.

Best iPad Backup Software

It is fairly safe to say, that the best of the backup tools, backup iPad apps or iPad backup software, is the backup that we get through using iTunes. You can move or copy files to and from the iPad through applications such as Good Reader or Dropbox and of course through iTunes itself. Best to keep it simple and use iTunes to do your iPad backup.

Backup Tools To Keep it Simple

Even with the best technology, sometimes things don’t go quite right, but if you keep it simple and use the iPad backup strategy there and you are less likely to see that message – iPad backup session failed. Use the 3-2-1 iPad backup strategy, using iTunes, Time Machine, SuperDuper and an off-site cloud backup service and if things do not go quite right, you will be able to do an iPad backup restore. It is not at all difficult to restore iPad from Backup.

Apple iPad Refurb, What Is The Difference Between That And A New One

The amount of money that you might save with buying a refurbished Apple iPad, rather than one that is labelled as new in the ordinary Apple online store, could be the difference that will allow you to get the model with 3G. Personally I think that would be a good direction to go with buying an iPad, for with a refurbished Apple iPad with 3G it will save you having to buy a MiFi, for out and about Internet connection.

Everything Gets Checked On A Refurbished Apple iPad – iPad Refurb

When an iPad is returned to the Apple Store, for whatever reason, the technical guys that do the refurbishment will check every single part of the iPad refurb, so that you get one that is better than new. The iPad screen will have been checked, all of the ports, the buttons such as the volume control and the home button, as well as the iPad been checked for scratches and marks. The refurbished Apple iPad will be available to buy in the Apple iPad refurb alongside other refurbished Apple computers and represents an excellent bargain. Which are the best Cool iPad Cases for your iPad?

We all want Cool iPad Cases for our iPad

With the proliferation of cases for the iPad and iPad 2, it can be awfully difficult to choose a cool iPad case, from all of the designer iPad cases out there. Quite a lot of the choice is down to personal preference, and how you use your iPad. Some cases will have a higher priority for the protection of the iPad, and some will have more of a priority in looking cool. So do you go for a skin type case, a soft case like the Apple iPad case, a hard case or do you go for the specialist iPad case, that perhaps turns the iPad into something like a laptop or notebook.
The Amazing iPad

There are so many designs available for the iPad cases, for example, if you are into Star Wars, you could have a Darth Vader style case, and then again maybe you just like flowers, and prefer to go for pretty. Whichever style case you go for, it is likely that you are making a statement about yourself at the same time as you are choosing a protective cover for your iPad.

Cool iPad Cases from ZaggMate

I particularly like the cases for the iPad from ZaggMate, they do have one which is a hard case, with a keyboard included. The keyboard that is included has special keys that are iPad specific and gives the iPad extra capabilities. Certainly there are cool iPad cases with a Bluetooth keyboard, many iPad users are able to type much more quickly, than by using the iPad on-screen keyboard. Mind you I have found that using the on-screen keyboard, can be quite quick when you consider that there is the predictive text available on the iPad.

The good thing about the silicon gel skin cover cases is that they are cheap to buy, they do a good job of protecting the case from scratches. Cool iPad cases made from silicone can give the iPad just enough bounce ability, if you happen to drop it. The silicon case doesn’t look quite as good as may be a leather carrying case, that is perhaps like a folio. Also if you’re using a silicon gel skin cover, you don’t get a built-in stand.
